It has been a busy day. I had book group tonight. We've been reading "Believing Christ" by Stephen Robinson. I highly recommend it. I have learned a lot from that book and have come to better understand the Savior's role in my life. It has really made a big difference to how I look at life and to realize that I don't have to be perfect, but as long as I'm doing my best, that is all that matters. As long as I'm trying and not giving up, that is good enough, then the Savior steps in and makes up the difference with my weaknesses and shortcomings. I'm so grateful to be able to go to the book group and that it gives me a chance to get out of the house and visit with sisters in my ward who I learn so much from!
Also, I've been very interested in the Inaugural today of President Obama. Although I admit I didn't vote for him, and disagree with some of his thoughts, I can't help but be thrilled for this country and the world to have the first black president in the USA. Having served an LDS mission in South Africa, the race issue hits close to home for me. During Christmas time, I was discussing the Obama topic with my friend Eve. She said that a friend told her, that even if he ends up being not that great of a president, he is definetly making a big impression on people and helping the black people feel like they can do anything. There's so much optimism and enthusiasm right now in the country, that the people will be succesful just because they are feeling good about the state of the country. I thought this was a good thought and I'm glad that there is so much enthusiasm out there for President Obama. I also had a South African friend who lives in England who has expressed her thoughts to me about this too. She thinks it's going to do wonders for the relations between the US and so many other countries in the world. It's been interesting to hear the thoughts of my overseas friends. I'm just so grateful to be alive at this time and to be living in America where anything is possible!
